Naked, a one-woman play
A work of poetry, theatre, and dance that explores the intimate nature of womanhood from giving birth to sexual complexities, growing up to maturation and finding oneself as a woman. It shows the fragility of how a woman deals with circumstances involving love, childbearing and self-discovery by incorporating power packed poetry pieces. This intimate encounter takes you into her thoughts and gives you front row seats to her personal moments; heartbreak, joy, fears and fantasies. A one-act two-person play based on the actual roller coaster relationship between Dhakeria, who is the playwright, and Will who also helped develop the script. Through a funny therapy session, the play explores the lovers’ quarrels, the flashbacks to their young adulthood at Howard University, and gives an intimate spin on universal issues that couples undergo through the various phases of a relationship. The two share their intimate journey that makes audiences laugh, cry, hope, and connect as many have been through the similar ups and downs as the couple vulnerably and transparently express.
